Your logic is faulty. Remember a 2.8GHz Athlon (FX-57) will destroy a 3.4GHz Pentium desktop.

The new Centrino chips are quite powerful for their clock speeds and I stand by the 2GHz Centrino being as fast as a 3.2GHz desktop system. When plugged, these Centrino chips are FAST. Again, it looks like you subscribe to the GHz is everything theory.

Centrino 2Ghz is equivelant to a 3.2P4 and they are not underclocked while on AC, and there is a way to turn off the underclocking while on battery if you desire. And of course they aren't clocked as high as the P4's. Why clock something that high when you can get better performace at a lower clock speed. mrchu, in regards to the performance issues...have you updated to the new mobile drivers? I have read that these are causing some issues.

Might I suggest you check out www.notebookforums.com and read up on the different brands and models. If you want something with the performance of a new DELL M170 you can also look at the Sager 5720 (with the new go 7800GTX) as the Sager is much cheaper and if you buy from PCTorque get extended warranty for about 100.00 for 2 more years through PCT.

I use the HP Pavilion zv6270us Notebook, and it works well...altough every once in a while it lags...but the preformace is good, and it just depends on the speed of your internet connection.

Guys, no I'm not on the "GHz is everything" theory.

I'd like to point out that no laptop I know of can run SLI Ge-force 7's.
ALthough that was a bit extreme of an example, graphics cards ARE a huge advantage to desktops.

I used to usse my dell latitude c800 for guildwars;
it had a 64 mb video card (nvidia)
512 mb ram
1.6 ghz p4

It worked perfectly until for some reason whenever the fans turned on I got massive lag.. (think it might have to ddue with the fact that I use it in reduced power mode cause I have a 70 watt adapter not a 90)

I use an Asus V6V to play GW on. 1.86ghz sonoma, 2gb ddr2 ram, 60gb 7200rpm hd, ati x600. Plays smoothly with all options on @ 1400x1050.

And a 2ghz sonoma will completely destroy a 3.2ghz p4. The 2.2ghz sonomas were outperforming 3.8ghz p4s and the 64-bit amds in games.

Didn't that SpeedStep kick in? Doesn't that take away CPU power?

cool - i have a similar setup and get desktop crash, i.e. i can't play. what kind of setup did u have (i.e. driver), etc?

I have a fujitsu siemens, p4 3 ghz, ati 9600 mobility 128, and 1gb of mem
win xp sp2, dx9.0c and i am using the ngo optimized drivers based on catalyst 5.8
fast write is off, i don't know how to set that to on though.
